The La Mata and Torrevieja Natural Park is located in the County of the River segura Lowlands, extending
over part of the Municipal Boundaries of Torrevieja, Guardamar del Segura, Los Montesinos, Rojales and San
Miguel de Salinas.
The Park, defines, with the El Fondo Natural Park and the Salinas de Santa Pola Natural
Park a wetlands triangle in the south of the Alicante province. Declared of international importance from
1989 for the Convention Ramsar, and included inside the zones of special protection for the birds (ZEPA) according
to the board(directive) Birds of the European Union.
The park also is included in the network nature
2000, forms a part of the catalogue of humid zones of the Comunitat Valenciana, and is a zone LIC (Place of
Interest Comunitary). |

The Landscape Study for the La Mata – Torrevieja Natural Park should make compatible the recreation,
scientific and didactic use of the Park, sorting out at the same time any possible conflict with the activities
developed within the Park or in its surroundings, The study should also define the connectors with other
urban, rural, coastal or natural open spaces.
- Define itineraries, viewpoints and public areas which facilitate the public use and enjoyment of the
Natural Park without affecting to its environmental, cultural and productive values.
- Suggest strategies and measures for the integration of adjoining urbanised areas and infrastructures
into the landscape.
- Provide regulations and policies for the management of the productive areas located within the park
(agricultural and salt production).
- Guide the creation of connectors between the Natural Park and the rest of the Alicante´s Green
Infrastructure. |
